Hiking on the PK trails is one of the many wonderful fulfilled activities here at the lake, and it happens to be my favorite. Possum Kingdom Lake Hike & Bike Trail System is a Brazos River Authority Project and runs 16-miles, the full length of the peninsula. One can enter at any of the 12 convenient trail-heads on the South side of the peninsula. Once you enter onto the trail system the peace, quiet and solitude it offers is matchless. Getting away from the sometimes hectic lifestyles we all seem to lead these days is such a blessing of true tranquility. Hiking amongst the natural habitat of numerous pants and animals native to North Texas, restores an inner calm and helps to get life on center again. The trails link all the Authority parks, including access to swimming, camping and restroom facilities. They average about 4.5 feet wide and provide slopes from 5 – 20 degrees. The more challenging are available around Johnson Peak. There are cedar and oak forest trees, rocks, sandy loam that line both sides of our trail with beautiful views overlooking the lake at various points. Please pick up a Brazos River Authority Hike & Bike Trail brochure at our Welcome Center offices. And please remember to pack out what you pack in.
