Bird Watching at Possum Kingdom Lake is a wonderful way to spend some quiet time in nature. Possum Kingdom Lake is an ideal environment for many varieties of birds, from those found on the prairie to water birds of all shapes and sizes. Some of the favorites of bird watchers at Possum Kingdom are the endangered Golden-cheeked Warbler. Key birds to keep an eye out for are Wood Ducks, Wild Turkey, Greater Roadrunners, Goldenfronted Woodpeckers, Canyon Wrens, Canyon Towhees, Rufouscrowned Sparrows, Mississippi Kites, Common Poorwills, Scissor-tailed Flycatchers, Black-capped Vireos, Goldencheeked Warblers, Painted Buntings, Dickcissels, Cassin’s and Grasshopper Sparrows. In addition to our many native birds many species migrate through the region during the season. Canadian Geese, Hummingbirds and Swifts are just a few of our many visitors to watch for!
