Hill Country, Texas is home to several extraordinarily beautiful housing developments, which overlook the famous Possum Kingdom Lake. While there is the Harbor and The Cliffs Resort which both offer fully developed properties, there is also the Possum Kingdom Ranch in the north of Hill Country, for investors looking to build their ideal home on clear lakeside land.

The Ranch at Possum Kingdom is the perfect location to start building a family home, with its protected forestry, privacy, and classic Texan charm. Parents can feel secure in the knowledge that their children are having fun learning and experiencing Ranch life in safety, as only the community has controlled access. Although Possum Kingdom Ranch is in the heart of the country, it is by no means ‘out of the way’; it’s within a short drive to the DFW airport, a nearby award winning golf course, and convenience stores.

The owners of Possum Kingdom Ranch have enlisted deed restrictions in order to preserve the charisma of the area. Homes built here must be built with three-quarters rock or stucco masonry, and with cedar, seam or tile roofing. They must have at least 1,750 square feet of living space that doesn’t exceed 35 feet in height and wooden windows. These guidelines are strictly set in place to uphold the privacy between homes, the spectacular views of the lake and general existing harmony within the community.

Not only does it boast a happy, friendly and welcoming community with stunning homes and views, but also a unique history not commonly found on housing development land. In the early 1900’s the J.K Weldon family invested in the Ranch, after saving their earnings from cotton and cattle sales. Before this, tribes of Native Americans inhabited this land in Hill Country and the Possum Kingdom Ranch as it stands today has seen its progression through use by Native Americans, for cattle farming for around ninety years and finally as a stunning housing area for many proud Texans. The original family barn that was built in 1913, grazing cattle, and the 20th century farming equipment that is still seen on the land, preserves its history today.

Possum Kingdom Lake, which served the Ranch land with stunning views, came into fruition in 1930 after the Brazos River dam was created. Many families have chosen this area to live in for hundreds of years due to its ideal location with access to fresh water, natural forest, open grazing land and a peaceful environment. Nowadays Possum Kingdom Ranch allows families to have access to many outdoor pursuits such as horseback riding, boating and water skiing on the lake and fishing. Such social activities promote the close-knit community here where everyone is friendly and willing to help. The residents here are as much an attraction as the staggering sunsets on the lake, natural wildlife and intriguing history.
